ABB Low Power Variable Speed Drives (0.12 - 37kW)

Small AC drives are viewed in today’s market as components, in the same way as contactors, relays and timers, and as such they should be just as easy to buy, install and use. They should be low cost and reliable enough to be fitted to any size motor and forgotten about.

By 2002, 94% of all AC Drives installed will be in the range covered by component AC drives. There is a huge potential for energy saving in this often ignored area of the drives market. Under 2.2kW, only 3% of motors are controlled by drives, leaving a 97% untapped market and a massive waste of electrical energy.

This range is a globally manufactured low cost, high quality drive providing exactly what the end user requires. They are designed with the user in mind, being straightforward and simple to use, whilst giving you the benefits you would expect from the No.1 supplier of AC drives in Europe.

The smaller drive range supply process is revolutionary. It makes obtaining low power AC drives easier than ever before, offering:

·        Easy selection/ ordering via the 24-hour order line (0115 9813893).

·        Easy payment via Major Credit Cards accepted.

·        East Midlands delivery from stock within 2 hours.

·        Easy to install, simple 6-step instruction/ commissioning sheet.

·        24 Hour, 365 day technical support line from Inverter Drive Systems (0115 9813893) or direct from ABB (0700 22 66 722).

·        Worldwide warranty and support through networks in every country.

The low power range comprises of four products, the ACS100, the ACS140, the ACS160 and the ACS400.

ACS 160: 0.55kW to 2.2kW 3-phase 380 - 480V AC, 50/60Hz input. (Motor-Mounted)

The ACS160 is an innovative inverter that can be mounted on top of a standard AC motor to produce an integrated motor/ drive package. Alternatively the ACS160 can be wall mounted like a conventional drive and in this case is supplied with an external cooling fan. The motor mounting version comes with a kit that enables the unit to be quickly mounted on the terminal box of most manufacturers standard TEFC type induction motors. This unit utilises the motors cooling arrangement to also cool the inverter.

Main Features

  • Compact and easy to retrofit to existing motors - No additional cabling required.

  • IP65 (NEMA 4) protection with tough Aluminium construction.

  • Supports all major Fieldbuses - Profibus DP, DeviceNet, Interbus-S, LonWorks, CanOpen, Modbus.

  • Built-in brake chopper; control for electromechanical brake.
