Inverter Drive Systems Ltd was founded as an ABB Drives Distributor in 1999 by Blaise Ford, and grew to be one of the UK’s largest ABB Inverter Drives Alliance Partners (now ABB VP). As a business, Inverter Drive Systems Ltd are focused on selecting, supplying, installing, commissioning, repairing, optimising and servicing ABB inverters.
IDS has been an ABB inverter partner since 1994 providing complete support and backup to ABB’s market leading products. We are proud to be an ABB VP (Value Provider).
Inverter Drive Systems Ltd has its origins in Wilson Ford Ltd from Nottingham, who, under the guidance of Blaise Ford, started as an ABB inverter distributor in 1994. In 1999, IDS was established in Wilford, Nottingham where the company flourished. In 2010, IDS moved into a new industrial unit on Quarry Hill Industrial Estate near Ilkeston, Derbyshire. This is on the old Stanton Staveley iron works site and is the home of IDS today.
We have a loyal team, with 4 of them originating from the old Wilson Ford days. Nowadays we are 19 strong comprising 9 engineers, 4 in technical sales and 6 who run the business in the office.
Inverters are a technical product so we offer our customers genuine 24/7 support on technical issues, stock access and breakdowns, as well as one of the largest ABB hire drive ranges in the UK.
We pride ourselves in applying our knowledge and experience of inverters to our customers’ applications to save energy, improve systems or reduce wear and tear. We carry out free energy efficiency motor surveys to identify inverter applications, quantify the potential savings, recommend solutions including the control systems and give a turnkey installation price. This energy efficiency report shows the savings you will make, and the time it will take to pay back the capital spent and the projected savings you will continue to make year on year.
